OET seeks to recruit an experienced technician to join us at the Bioinnovation Hub, Gipsy Lane, Headington. This will be a key role in supporting contract service projects for customers and an externally funded research and development project developing vaccines for animal diseases.
Scientific Technician
Full-time or part-time (negotiable)
Starting salary from £28,778 according to experience
Essential skills
● Experience in molecular biology and modern biological research techniques including aseptic technique and cell culture
● Experience with SDS PAGE, PCR and protein analysis preferred
● Ability to keep accurate records and lab notebooks
● Ability to assist with a range of techniques such as making up solutions and buffers, pH adjustment and centrifugation of biological samples
● Experience of stock control, ordering lab items, maintaining equipment and organising servicing contracts
● Ability to work independently and within a team environment
● Excellent teamwork and communication skills, and attention to detail
● Computer literacy including Microsoft Office and Google Docs
Other preferred skills
● Experience in virology (mammalian and/or insect)
● Recombinant protein expression system: bacterial, mammalian and/or insect
● An interest in vaccine development for human or veterinary applications
Key Contract Terms
● 37.5 h/week for full-time; three-year contract
● 3 month probation period; 1 week notice during probation, 1 month thereafter
● 25 days paid holiday per annum, pro rata (based on Jan to Dec period) plus English bank holidays and 1-2 Company days at Christmas/New Year
